Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Are any repairs DIY repairs?
A:No, not all repairs are DIY. Some repair jobs require advanced skills or specialty tools. We will never recommend that you try your own repairs unless we are confident you can be successful under our guidance.
Q: Should I DIY or choose full service?
A:Many individuals underestimate their own abilities. With careful planning and little support, you can achieve great things! We recommend watching a few Youtube videos before you arrive to give you a general idea of what to expect and then follow our coaching to ensure that it's done right. It's important to approach tasks with caution and to pay attention to detail. We discourage choosing DIY if you have no interest in learning and are just trying to save $.
Q: What if I get stuck on a repair or find out I have the wrong part?
A: Unexpected setbacks can be stressful. In worst-case scenarios that your vehicle needs to stay overnight we have plenty of free parking. You'll only get charged when your vehicle is occupying a bay. A journeyman mechanic is on site to assist if needed and the bay rental rate stops if you request that we take over the job.
Q:What is included when I rent a bay?
A:Our facility provides bays that are fully equipped with a comprehensive set of high quality tools (manual, power, & air). Our range of hoists can accommodate small cars to large trucks. Access to our 'shared-use' tools and specialty tools is also included (some specialty equipment is for staff use-only. Please inquire).
Q: Can I bring a friend?
A: YES ! ( max 2 people in a bay) sometimes repairs are easier and more fun with help, you are responsible for said person and they will also need to sign a waiver.
Q: What are the shop rules?
No work is to be done without first signing the waiver.
No open toed shoes while in the shop.
You are responsible for using PPE. ( Personal Protective Equipment i.e. safety glasses )
Clean up spills immediately.
Put away common area tools after use .
Report broken tools or missing pieces.
Treat other Shop users and their property with respect.
Clean bay and tools when your finished with the repairs.
Q:Do you supply consumable materials like rags, grease, parts cleaner, etc?
A:Consumables should be supplied by the customer or can be purchased from Community auto at fair market prices.
Q:What are the most common car repairs done by DIYers?
A:Fluid and filter changes, tire change overs, steering and suspension, check engine light /scanning for codes etc.
Q:Do I buy parts from Community Auto or from a parts store?
A: Unique to Community Auto, you are invited and even encouraged to shop around for parts. We want you to find the best parts at the best price so customer supplied parts are more than welcome. *Warranties not carried by Community Auto when customer supplies parts.
Q:What experience does your mechanic have?
A: Our owner is a 3-time* Red Seal Mechanic with more than 25 years experience. (*Automotive Service Technician, Commercial Transport Mechanic, Heavy Duty Mechanic)
Q:Do I need to buy a membership?
A:No , We realize membership is not ideal for everyone. Bays can be rented by the hour as a non member.
Q:What are the benefits of being a member?
A: Becoming a member gives you access to lower rental rates, the ability to reserve a hoist or bay in advance, and discounts on tires and parts. You’ll enjoy drive-up service with code scanning and advice from friendly mechanics—without the pushy sales pressure fond at typical shops. Plus, you join an exclusive community of like-minded, hands-on car enthusiasts who love learning, saving, and taking control of their vehicle maintenance.
Q:Why did you choose to start a DIY shop instead of a typical mechanic shop?
A:Community Auto offers both DIY and mechanic repair services. Sometimes repairs start as DIY and end up needing a mechanic to take over the job as its above the persons abilities or they lack the time and that is 100 percent OK
Q:Can I work on a large truck? Boat? Lawn Mower? Quad? Motorcycle?
A:If it fits in the shop the answer is YES.
